Strengthening Families toward Academic Success

Series 1
The objective of this series is to increase the parent’s ability to explore the emotional behavioral factors necessary to organize their families. In doing so, parents will increase effectiveness and will be able to provide healthy and systematic support for the academic success of their children.

The Family’s Role in Achieving Academic Success
This workshop will help parents understand how the family contributes to strengthening academic achievement by exploring the roles and responsibilities of each family member. Parents need to develop a clear vision or plan for how they want to grow as a family.

Exploring Types of Discipline
This excellent workshop will help parents understand how they can implement positive discipline to help their children develop self-control and independence without the use of physical and/or verbal aggression. Parents will explore techniques to improve their communication skills and how to motivate their children to become self-sufficient and responsible human beings.

Setting Limits and Recognizing Abuse
Parents will learn how to set limits in the home and recognize the fine line between discipline and child abuse. Child abuse and the emotional scars that remain permanently with the child will be discussed at length. The negative effects of child abuse and how it impacts grades and social skills will also be discussed.

Family Communication
Techniques to improve parent and child communication will be acquired. Parents will learn about active listening and will better understand the thoughts and emotions of their adolescent children in order to motivate them and help them resolve conflicts.

Self-Esteem: The Key to Academic Success
Parents will learn about the process of developing a healthy self-esteem. They will also explore communication styles and discipline in the home to contribute to the development of optimal self-esteem and discuss strategies on how to strengthen their children's self-esteem.

Anger Management
This dynamic workshop is designed for parents who are learning and practicing techniques to control or gain control of their emotions. The implementation of these strategies will help resolve individual and family effectively.

How to Modify Behavior Without Aggression
In this workshop a behavior model is used to teach parents how behavior can be modified by implementing the concept of positive reinforcement. This concept will discourage parents from using physical, verbal, and emotional punishment to change behavior.

The Basic Elements of Academic Success
Parents will learn how to encourage and strengthen study habits at home and nurture a love of reading. The teachings will prepare parents to motivate their children to achieve better academic results using their abilities and strengths.
